1 Lt. Jeffrey D. Cooper, age 25 was killed on September 10, 2016 in a roll over, non-combative accident in Kuwait. Born in 1991 in Abington, Pennsylvania and raised in the Everett and Mill Creek area of Washington State. He graduated from Henry M. Jackson High School in Mill Creek in 2009. At age 17, Jeffrey choose to join the United States Coast Guard as a Reservist. He completed his Basic Training in Cape May, NJ during the summer of his junior year of high school. After graduation in 2009, Jeff completed his Coast Guard training in California. Upon completion, he then entered his Freshman year of college at the California Maritime Academy (part of the California State University) in Vallejo, CA. After his first year, that summer, Jeffrey was deployed with the USCG to Lousiania to help with the cleanup of the Gulf Oil Spill. Upon his graduation from CalMare in 2013, Jeff choose to continue his military career with a desire to be an officer. He transferred from the USCG to the U.S. Army and was accepted in the Officer Candidate School (OCS) . He completed all of his training including OCS training at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. He was assigned to the 101st AB DIV (Air Assault) HHC, 2-502IN. at Fort Campbell in KY. where he was working until his deployment to Kuwait in April. Jeffrey is survived by his parents, Douglas Cooper and Diane (O'Connor) Cooper and one brother Jay Cooper, all from Fort Lee, VA. His maternal grandmother Dorothy O'Connor of Swarthmore, PA, his Aunt Sharon O'Connor of Glenolden, PA, his Aunt Sheila (O'Connor) Hamm and her husband Daniel Hamm of West Chester, Pa., Aunt Carol (Cooper) Leslie and her husband William (Bill) Leslie from Greenbackville, VA and his cousins, Shannon Hamm, Ryan Hamm, Melyssa (Hamm) Herzer and her husband Zach Herzer and baby Micah Herzer, Kristen Hamm, Brittany Hamm and Melanie Hamm, David Leslie of Birdsboro, Pa and Kevin Leslie of Greenbackville, VA. Jeffrey was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (Posthumously), Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal, Nation Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (Posthumously), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Coast Guard Special Operations Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Ribbon M Device , Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Posthumously), Coast Guard Pistol Marksmanship, Overseas Service Bar. 1st Lieutenant Jeffrey D. Cooper served over 8 years of combined military service for his country. He was also a member of The Sons of the American Revolution and a very proud Patriot. There will be a Mass at Notre Dame deLourdes Catholic Church on Fairview Road in Swarthmore, PA at 11:00 AM on Saturday the 24th of September. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Church. Jeff will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery on January 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Following the Mass, there will be a luncheon at the Springfield Country Club, 400 W. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064 from 12:15 to 3:30 pm.
