Earl Johnston

Earl T. Johnston, 86, of Newtown Square, formerly of Collingdale, passed away peacefully at home on the 11th of December, 2021.  He was the husband of Joanna Johnston (nee Ciliberti) with whom they shared 64 years of marriage.  Also survived by his four children, Thomas, Lisa DeMitis (Dom), Edward and Laura, his two grandchildren Gianna and Marissa DeMitis.  Beloved son of the late Willis and Lillian (Roche) Johnston, and step father Bill Wagner.  He was predeceased in death by his late brother Donald Johnston, his wife Barbara and their son Donald.  He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was employed at the Sun Company for 48 years.  His last 20 years were spent in Philadelphia as an oil trader.  He loved his job and the people he worked with.

He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, playing cards and landscaping. He loved his home and taking care of his property. You could always find him riding around on one of his tractors.  He was the jack of all trades.  There was nothing he couldn’t fix.

Earl loved to travel.  He and his wife enjoyed numerous trips to Europe and the Caribbean.

He enlisted in the National Guard in 1957.

He was a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus.  He volunteered as a tireless supporter of the Knights.  He also volunteered for the Broomall Chapter of Deborah Hospital from 1981-1990.

He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He learned how to kayak in his later years and made frequent trips to the NJ shore with his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA  19008, on Saturday, December 18th, from 9:00 to 10:20 A.M., followed by his funeral mass at 10:30 A.M.  Interment at St. Peter and Paul.
