Frederick Doherty

Frederick J. Doherty, age 81, of Springfield, PA, formerly of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on November 16, 2021.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Winifred Doherty (nee Mulhern).

Fred was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.   He was a retired firefighter with the Philadelphia Fire Department.   He was also employed as a Maintenance Mechanic for the United States Post Office.

Fred loved spending time with his grandchildren, doing puzzles and playing solitaire.

Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janet Doherty (nee Updyke).  He is survived by his loving sons, Patrick Doherty and James F. Doherty, and his daughter-in-law Karen Doherty.  Also survived by his grandsons Seamus and Finn Doherty and his sisters-in-law Marie Doherty and Catherine Doherty.   He was predeceased by his siblings John, Marie, Joseph, Daniel, Eugene and Edward Doherty.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Monday, November 22, 2021 from 9:30-10:25 AM at St. Laurence Lower Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.  Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
