John Nawn

May 4, 1938 — March 1, 2020

John Henry Nawn, age 81, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on March 1, 2020.  Born in Darby, PA, he was the son of the late William F.J. Nawn and Elizabeth M. Nawn Baudin (nee McCracken).

John was a 1956 graduate of Lansdowne-Aldan High School.  He received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Villanova University in 1970, his Master of Electrical Engineering in 1972 from Villanova University and his Master of Science in Systems Engineering in 1977 from the University of Pennsylvania.

John served in the United States Navy from 1956-1960 where he attained the rank of Electronics Technician, Second Class and was honorably discharged.  He received the Middle East Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

John was employed as an Electrical Engineer with the Philadelphia Electric Company.  He was an Adjunct Instructor at Delaware County Community College and was the Dean of Science and Engineering at Ocean County College.

John was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Laurence Roman Catholic Church in Upper Darby, PA, a 4th Degree Knight with Trinity Council 3132 of the Knights of Columbus.   He was also a member of the Sons of Italy in Ocean City, MD, a long-time volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and spent 20 years of service on the Upper Darby School Board.

He enjoyed spending time with family in Fenwick Island, DE.   He also enjoyed working on home projects, particularly stained glass and furniture restoration.   He was also interested in Engineering, Physics, Electronics and History.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Margaret Nawn (nee Locilento).  He was the loving father of John A. Nawn (Barbara), Joseph A. Nawn (Mary) and Matthew W. Nawn (Elizabeth).  Dear grandfather of John E. Nawn, M.D. (Mary Kate), JuliAna Nawn (Partner Jeff Dreyer), Joanna, Joseph H., William, Jeanette, and Robert Nawn and Matthew E., Andrew and Megan Nawn.  Great-grandfather of Augustine, Ambrose and Dominic Nawn.  He is also survived by his sister, Carol Flick.  He was predeceased by his brother, William Nawn and his sister, Elizabeth Laber.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Friday, March 6, 2020 9:30-11:00 AM at St. Laurence Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA and to his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.  Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
