Kathleen Elizabeth “Kathie” Buchanan (née Lipsky), 81, of West Chester, formerly of Upper Darby, PA passed away on January 8, 2020.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Buchanan; loving mother of Joseph Buchanan (Anne), Kimberly Kelley (John), Stacey Smith (Wayne), James Buchanan (Trish), Meg Rogers (Andrew), Christopher Buchanan (Lori) and the late Chuck Buchanan; devoted grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; dear sister of Michelle Lipsky O’Hara.
Kathie had many joys in life but nothing more than her grandchildren. Her 17 grandchildren Josh, Megan, Katie, Kevin, Jimmy, Courtney, Jessica, Alyssa, CJ, Shane, Timmy, Brendan, Madison, Sophie, Allison, Sammy and Alexa. And 11 great grandchildren Sophia, Ryan, Ava, Maura, Brendan, Layla, Jimmy, JJ, Charlie, Colton and Julia. She loved spending time with all of them either at the shore, at home or on vacation with them.
She was long life friends with Pat and Bruce Barton who were at her side when she passed. She had a large group of friends from the area and they all belonged to “The Newcomers Club”. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and many more activities with the group. Kathie never drove a day in her life. She relied on many of her friends to get her where she had to go. The family is very appreciative of the love, care and friendship they showed to our Mom. We would like to send a special thank you to Barb Caldwell and Judy McVitty. Barb and Judy were a constant in our Mom’s life and we appreciate all they did for her.
Among many of our Mom’s interest were cooking, reading, shopping and she loved trips to go to the casino’s. When it came to shopping, she was a professional! Nobody shopped like her. She never bought anything that was not on sale. She could find a deal inside the deal and she loved to tell you about it. A trait she passed on to her daughters.
Her casino trips were one of her favorite things to do. She loved to play Let it Ride, Ultimate Texas Hold -Em and Roulette. When you asked how she did, she would always say “well I broke even but I played for a while”.
Mom was the best and we will miss her more than anything. We love you Mom.
