Mary McLaughlin

Mary Teresa McLaughlin (née Fitzgerald), 91, of West Chester, PA, went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2021.

Born September 19, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late John Watson and Marie (née Duckett) Fitzgerald.  Mary graduated from St. Monica Business School in South Philadelphia where she was class president and valedictorian of her class.  In her youth, Mary enjoyed riding horses, playing contract bridge, and vacationing at the Jersey Shore.   She worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia.  Mary was a member of Saints Simon and Jude Church, Westtown.

Mary loved nature, especially bird watching, and was self-taught in the Japanese flower arranging art of Ikebana. Together with her father-in-law, the late William McLaughlin, they helped conserve the eastern bluebird.  She was a Philadelphia sports fan and rooted for the Phillies, Eagles, and Villanova Wildcats. Mary never missed watching the Kentucky Derby or the Mummers String Bands.  She also volunteered at The American Red Cross.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late John Donald McLaughlin; loving mother of Steven McLaughlin (Jeanne), John McLaughlin (Kimberly), David McLaughlin (Eileen), and Donna McLaughlin; adoring grandmother of Lindsay, Colin, Megan, Emma, Erin, and Alaina; and dear sister of Patricia Buckton. Great Grandmom delighted in baby Sophia (Lindsay and Stephen Wasylenko).  She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Howe and Madeleine Robertson.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 10:15-11:00 AM, Monday, May 24, 2021 at SS. Simon and Jude, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on The Donohue Funeral Home Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/thedonohuefuneralhome/ . Interment Private.
