Alice Miriam Cohen

Miriam went to her Heavenly rest on September, 14, 2023. She had been a resident of Glenolden, Delaware County for over fifty years. Miriam was the tenth child born to Charles and Catherine Popjoy of Chester County, PA in 1926. She was the last surviving of twelve Popjoy children. Miriam was predeceased by her husband Bernard S. Cohen, her grandson Mark Cohen, her daughter in law Maureen Cohen and her son Bernard S. Cohen, Jr. Miriam and Bernard celebrated 56 years of marriage. They raised their son in Glenolden where they lived in their forever home. The loss of their grandson, Mark was a very deep loss to Miriam and family.

Miriam enjoyed her relationship with her granddaughter Bernadette Cohen greatly as she was a strong grandparent to both Mark and Bernadette. In her later years, she enjoyed her time with Bernadette as a companion and confidant.

Miriam was very bright, she retained many stories, Scriptures, and historical facts. She continued to be a daily learner with a clear mind until her passing. She was passionate about politics and healthy living.

Miriam first worked as a medical secretary and later held positions in the local schools, primarily in the library. She was a community volunteer for charities, a Cub Scout leader, a school volunteer and she held a variety of roles in her church. She was a book collector and a reader. She learned to drive after years of using public transportation; at fifty she began driving and she and husband Bernard enjoyed road trips together
