Alice M. George (nee Wetzel), age 77, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on May 21, 2021. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gottlieb A. and Elizabeth Wetzel (nee Landen).
Alice graduated high school from Villa Maria School in Malvern and then began her Nursing career by graduating from Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing. This launched her journey and career in Nursing, a career that spanned 55 years.
Alice began working in Children’s Pediatrics which was one of her passions. Over her long career, Alice worked in many institutions taking care of severely disabled children and ending her career caring for families and patients who were transitioning to their final journey through hospice programs.
Alice was a dedicated, loyal nurse and advocate for all her patients, regardless of race, color or creed. Alice gave everything when practicing her chosen profession. She was a believer in life and the beauty of life. Alice gave with joy and that joy was her reward.
Alice was predeceased by her beloved husband, Abner George, and her sister Mary Hibner. She is survived by her loving sons, Andrew George and Eric C. Floyd, Jr. Also survived by her grandchildren Eric Floyd, Jr. Jaylin Floyd, Elijah Floyd, and Madison George and her brother, Michael Wetzel.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Tuesday, June 1, 2021 9:30-10:30 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (Cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Laurence Lower Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alice’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
