Alvin Lorenz Stock of West Chester, PA died peacefully on April 16th 2025 at the age of 95.
Alvin was born on July 17th, 1929 in New York City to Alvin L. and Dorothy (née Lorenz) Stock, lived his first twelve years in the northern part of Manhattan. After which he spent the rest of his childhood in Manhasset, NY, where he spent his time interested in such activities as sailing and boating (which he built his own row boat).
He spent summers with his friends at the family property on Shelter Island, NY doing boating, camping, fishing and crabbing. Alvin was a 1947 graduate, with honors, from Manhasset High School and went on to graduate with honors, as a mechanical engineer, with from the prestigious Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. After Stevens, he joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Philadelphia, PA. He received an MBA from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA and attended courses at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburg, PA during his early tenure at Westinghouse.
Along the way, his intellect and engineering savvy resulted in 10 official US patents in Steam Turbine design for the electrical generation industry. He was also a major contributor in designing the propulsion plant for the USS Nautilus (SSN-571), the world's first operational nuclear-powered submarine.
He lived with his wife Nancy (née Petro) Stock in Wallingford, PA for 20 years, during which time they raised their two children, Michelle and Ken. He enjoyed time and vacations with family, helped with Ken’s Boy Scout Troop. In 1982, Alvin and Nancy were transferred to Casselberry, Florida where he continued to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation until his retirement in 1992. As empty nesters, Alvin enjoyed traveling to many national and international destinations with his wife Nancy.
Alvin spent his retirement years between homes in Sea Oaks, Vero Beach, FL and West Chester, PA. Alvin’s legacy lives on through his beloved family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his children, Ken and Michelle (Robert) Ford; and two grandchildren, Sydney and Timothy.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:30-11:00 AM Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Church of the Good Samaritan, 212 W. Lancaster Avenue, Paoli, PA 19301, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held privately with family only.
