Amy Vanessa Swier, age 51, of Silver Spring, MD passed away on August 20, 2017.
She was the loving mother of Christopher Swier, 25, of College Park, MD.
Amy was the beloved daughter of Edward and Gail (nee Knabb) Swier, dear sister of Cynthia Swier, cherished niece of Peggy Swierczynski, and cousin of Rhonda Morris, Tara Myer, Jay Swierczynski, and Mark Swierczynski.
Amy grew up in Broomall and was graduated from Marple Newtown High School in 1984. During childhood she and her sister loved playing in the woods behind their home and visiting Ridley Creek State Park. Amy also enjoyed swimming at Rose Tree Woods Swim Club, where she was a swim team member for many years.
She had been residing in Maryland for over 25 years. In 1997 Amy earned her Associate's degree and was graduated from Nursing School at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD. She held a variety of jobs over the years, the most recent was as a personal caregiver for a young man with autism.
Amy was a true animal lover. She loved all the pets the family had throughout her life, and especially her and Christopher's cat, Tiger, and her dog, Angel. She also loved wildlife and nature. She enjoyed camping in Harper's Ferry, WV, and hiking - especially on the "Billy Goat Trail" along the Potomac River. Amy also loved the beach and enjoyed many summer vacations in Ocean City, MD,
Throughout her life Amy was an avid music lover, whether attending live concerts or taking a college class in music appreciation. She enjoyed many genres of music, especially 1960's "hippie" music but also today's latest trends and everything in between.
She had a great interest in learning new things, especially about science, watching documentaries by Michio Koku and Neil deGrasse Tyson, then reading their books. She passed away one day before the recent solar eclipse, which she had marked on her calendar in bold red lettering
