Ann Marie "Nancy" Sawyer, 74, of Broomall, passed away on November 16, 2016.
Born in Philadelphia in 1942, she was the loving and devoted daughter of the late Ann Marie (nee Bailey) and John F. Sawyer, Sr.
Nancy was the dear sister of Jay (Carmela), Tom (Joan), Mike (Eileen), Jim (Kathy), Charles (Rita), Eva Czyzewski (Ted), and the late Bill (Linda); also survived by her loving 17 nieces and nephews, 3 godchildren, and 20 great nieces and nephews.
Nancy was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. She attended early Sunday Mass each week with a devoted group of
friends. She spoke often of the support and kindnesses of the many members she met and her gratefulness to them.
Retired from Hertz, Inc., Nancy enjoyed a part time job with the Upper Darby School District Food Services Department. She worked in the Drexel Hill Middle School and Aronimink Elementary School and her favorite part of the job was the time she spent talking to the children and the friends she made with many of
the faculty and staff. Always needing to be busy, Nancy then volunteered several days a week at Surrey Senior Citizens Center in Havertown. She so enjoyed interacting with all the members, joined them on outings and made many lifelong friends. When driving was not an option for her, Nancy found a wonderful
volunteer opportunity within walking distance at Nana's Attic Thrift Store in Broomall which benefits Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County. She loved working there - organizing the stock, talking with customers and always joking with her co-workers. It was important to Nancy to be involved and give of her enthusiasm to a cause she embraced.
With all of her endeavors, to Nancy, family came first, always! One of eight children, Nancy understood the deep love and commitment to family. With no
children of her own, Nancy helped out with her siblings and then when her nieces and nephews came along, she found her mission in life- devoting her time, energy and love to the joys of her life. She faithfully attended games, recitals, plays, school events, birthdays, library story times, and often babysat - loving every minute of it. And now, with the next generation of great nieces and nephews, she fell even more in love, spending as much time as she could with each of them. In return, Nancy was adored and loved by each. All of her nieces, nephews, and greats will have so many wonderful memories and mementos to hold onto in the coming years.
