Anna Elizabeth Devlin, aged 90 years old of Broomall, PA, formerly of East Lansdowne, PA passed away September 12th peacefully in her home. Anna, affectionately nicknamed “Annie”, was a mother of seven and a wife to the late Thomas Devlin. Annie was born and raised in South Philadelphia, attended West Catholic Girls High School (where she was the featured model for the yearbook!), and met her husband through her life-long best friend and sister-in-law, Kitty.
Annie cherished her roles as a mother and grandmother. Despite losing her husband when her youngest was fifteen, Annie radiated strength. She was the glue that held her family together, and she prided herself on her ability to save and stay frugal during difficult times. Annie was an incredibly regimented person, who stuck to her daily schedule and wasn’t too keen on trying new things - “I don’t care for it,” as she would always say. She had a sweet tooth, and she could always be counted on for a piece of candy, from tootsie rolls to gummi bears. As a grandmother, Annie took an active role in watching her grandchildren, feeding and playing with them, and her house was a fun center that they were always over the moon to attend.
In 2007, Annie suffered a stroke and moved in with her youngest son, Joe, and his family. She quickly bounced back, and soon the only evidence she had ever had a stroke was her slight lean to the right side. She participated in many hobbies, including sewing and crocheting, reading extensively, and yarn plastic canvases that she displayed in her window for every holiday. Annie saw the world advance a million times over in her life, and even learned how to operate an iPad in her elder years.
Annie will be remembered by her family as a woman tough as nails, yet soft hearted with so much love to give.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas C. Devlin, Sr., her loving son, Thomas C. Devlin, Jr., and her dear daughter-in-law, Tricia Devlin.
Annie was the loving mother of Anna Dunne (Charles, “Chips”), Hazel Cross, Margaret Sheldon, John Devlin (Patti), Mary Curley (Terry), and Joseph Devlin (the late Tricia). She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildern, as well as her dear sister, Catherine Lorier, and her sister-in-law, Kitty.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Anna’s life and legacy. A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 9:30 – 10:30 AM at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by a Funeral Mass, 10:30 AM.
