Anna Dorothy Ostanek (nee Skalski), passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 31, 2015. Born on March 16, 1922 she was 93 years of age.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Leonard, parents Cecelia (nee Zuraski) and Ignatius Skalski, and siblings: Lottie Opiatowski, Julia Trusky, Sophie, Mary, Frank, Helen and Cecelia Skalski.
Ann attended Forest City Regional Schools where she excelled in mathematics, her favorite subject. With no means to further her studies as a Math teacher, she embarked on a career in the garment industry in Forest City and Honesdale, PA which she continued to enjoy as a hobby throughout her life. She used her talent to create beautiful clothing, including coats, hats and draperies for both family and friends. Later in her career she enjoyed working as a fashion consultant for several upscale boutiques in Scranton PA. She married U.S. Marine Sergeant Leonard F. Ostanek of Browndale, PA on Aug 7, 1948. She moved with her machinist husband to Newark, NJ and later to Peckville, PA where they resided for over 50 years. Ann and Len became residents of West Chester, PA in 2005 and thoroughly enjoyed being near their children and grandchildren. Brandywine Hall in West Chester became her last home where she continued to make many friends and influence smiles with her wit and positive outlook.
Ann was a hardworking, forward thinking woman who was extremely generous and caring. She was always there to help others in need, often acting as a second Mom. In Peckville, she was referred to as "Mrs. O", famous for her pierogies and enjoyed being a member of a long lived pinochle club. She was a spirited woman who enjoyed a lively debate and carved out a fun and adventurous life for her family.
She was a former member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Peckville, PA active in the Holy Rosary Society and most recently a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in West Chester, PA.
She will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Dorothy Ann and husband Robert Rockey of Erie PA; Karen and husband William Musselman of West Chester PA; her son, Leonard J. Ostanek and his wife Debra of West Chester PA; six grandchildren, Sean Rockey of Short Mountain TN; Leigh Ann Rockey of Erie PA; Jason Ostanek and his wife Kristine, of Springfield, PA; Laura Ostanek Edwards and her husband Chadron, of NYC; and Tyler and Sara Musselman of West Chester PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation, Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382 followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery.
