Anne E. Lonergan (née McGeehan), 94, of Downingtown, PA, formerly of Roslyn, PA and North Cape May, NJ, passed away on February 17, 2021.
Born in Hazelton, PA in 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline (née Breslin) McGeehan. Her family moved to Upper Darby, PA when she was a child. She graduated from Upper Darby High School and Misericordia Hospital’s Nursing School. She worked as a Registered Nurse at various hospitals and skilled care facilities throughout her career.
Anne served honorably in the US Navy, as a Registered Nurse, during the Korean War, earning the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.
When Anne and Joe were married they settled in Roslyn, PA to raise their family.
In 1978 Anne and Joe moved to North Cape May, NJ where they were very active in the St John of God parish and in the local community. Anne attended daily Mass, served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered with many of the church’s ministries. Following her retirement from nursing, Anne became a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Anne was an avid reader, a talented knitter and seamstress and a regular bingo caller at the parish’s Wednesday afternoon bingo.
Anne was the beloved wife for 54 years of the late Joseph W. Lonergan; loving mother of Joseph W. Jr (Kathleen), Carol Ann York (Roger), Michael Lonergan (Deborah), Mary T. Adams (Joel), John Lonergan; devoted grandmother of Joseph Lonergan III (Claire), Robert Lonergan (Shannon), Eric York (Elizabeth), Nathanial Lonergan (Peter), Zachary Lonergan (Decerie), C. Patrick Lonergan (Jesse), Brett Adams, Celia Adams, Spencer Adams, Caroline Adams; dear great-grandmother of Joseph Lonergan III, Peter Lonergan, Bridie Lonergan, Joshua York, Emmett York and Samuel York; and dear sister of Joseph McGeehan (Mary).
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 10:15-10:50 AM Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at St. Joseph Church, 332 Manor Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335 followed by her Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. Int. Holy Cross Cemetery.
