Anthony Francis Cardarelli - beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor – passed away on January 21, 2024 at the age of 86.
Born in Philadelphia on January 31, 1937, Anthony “Tony” was a proud graduate of St. Thomas More High School where he became a state track and field champion athlete. Later he served honorably in the Army Reserves and retired from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he devoted 37 years serving as the In-Patient Pharmacy Supervisor where he led with a passion and commitment to colleagues, healthcare workers and patients.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years (September 14, 1963) - Rachel (nee Visco) Cardarelli - who he first met in kindergarten at St. Donato’s Parochial School in West Philadelphia more than 80 years ago. Together they created a beautiful family and a legacy that will carry on his memory, character, warmth, and kindness.
Tony was the very proud father of Christopher Cardarelli (Dale), Matthew Cardarelli (Elizabeth), and Michael Cardarelli (Jodi) and loving grandfather of Michael Kremser (Abbey), Jacob Cardarelli, Olivia Cardarelli (Gregory Love), Michael Cardarelli, Jr., Joseph Cardarelli and Brendan Cardarelli. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Rose (nee Rufo) Cardarelli and his siblings, Donato Cardarelli (Nettie) and Rosalie Saraco (Paul). He is also survived by his brothers Peter Cardarelli (Lucille) and Raymond Cardarelli (April) as well as his sister Josephine (Anthony) Sorrentino.
Tony touched so many lives through his storytelling, compassion, sense of humor, and empathy toward others. He was always humble and fully present and possessed a unique ability to make others feel safe, seen, and respected.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 9:30-11:30 AM Monday, January 29, 2024 at St. Laurence Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment will be Private.
