Archie B. Lane, age 90, of Wallingford, PA, passed away on September 14, 2019. Archie was born in Price, Utah.
During his youth, Archie worked many jobs and was a hard worker. While in high school, he met a gentleman named Doc Owens, who was the Director of the High School Band, where he found his calling playing the tenor saxophone. He and Mr. Owens became good friends. While playing in the band, Archie asked his brother, Eddie, to join where he played the drums. At the age of 18, he formed the Lane Quartet with his brother and two additional people. They played in night clubs all over central Kentucky.
Archie graduated high school and attended 1 year of college, majoring in Music. He worked as a short order cook at his father’s restaurant (Lane’s Restaurant) in Danville, KY from 1948 to 1951 until he was inducted into the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Ft. Knox, KY. He was assigned to the 539th Engineer Pontoon Bridge Company on February 7, 1951. He attended training for Cooking and Mess Management at Ft. Leonard Wood in MO where he served the majority of his tour. He was released from active duty on February 6, 1953 and served in the United States Army Reserves for 5 years and was honorably discharged. After his discharge, he held many jobs in Washington State, Vermont, and Wallingford, PA.
Archie is survived by his beloved wife, Mildred and his loving son, Robert. He is survived by his siblings Emma of Danville, KY, Julius (Jay) of Austin, TX, Betty of Danville, KY, Tillie of California, and Linda of Danville, KY. He was predeceased by his brother, Eddie.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 6:30-7:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Media, 350 W. State Street, Media, PA and to his Funeral Service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Archie Lane may be made to Generations Life Care Foundation, 1290 Baltimore Pike, Suite 200, Chadds Ford, PA 19317 would be appreciated.
