Arthur "Art" Basciano

Arthur “Art” Basciano, age 80, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on February 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Art was born in Drexel Hill, PA, to the late Dominick and Katherine (nee Piccolo) Basciano, and was predeceased by his loving wife Paulette (nee Scalone).  He is survived by his adored children Arthur Basciano, Jr. (Diana), Andrea Basciano-Master (Michael), and Audrey Basciano, his adored grandchildren Brittany, Nicholas, Victoria, Austin, Anthony and Felicia. He was also the loving brother of Maryanne Tribiuani, Michael and Dominick Basciano.

Arthur graduated from Sayre High School and Dobbins Technical School for Architecture. He started his career with Otto Reichert Associates in Philadelphia and moved on to Pennoni Associates of Philadelphia before retiring from The Archdiocese of Camden. Along the way, he made many friends that are still friends today. Art could also be found designing homes and additions for family and friends. His eye for design was amazing.

Arthur had many hobbies, including watching sports, especially the Flyers, and Phillies. His grandsons each grew up playing one of these sports, if not both. Art and Paulette would travel all over to see Nick and Austin play roller and ice hockey. This was their vacation time. He also enjoyed sitting in the outfield watching Anthony play baseball. This reminded him of his son Artie. Art also played and coached Artie and Mike in a softball league in Philadelphia. You could find him at the Casinos with Paulette if he wasn’t watching the grandkids or TV sporting events. He loved his Roulette and Blackjack. Art was also an avid artist. The drawing was his passion. In the end, his room was decorated with watercolor paintings he did at the beginning of his career. 

Art, before Dementia, was an active parishioner at St. Andrew’s Parish in Drexel Hill. Art could be seen as an usher at Sunday Mass. Not only doing the collection, but showing everyone a picture of his beloved wife, Paulette. He carried a photo of her around and introduced her to everyone he met after her death in 2013.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his Viewing Thursday, February 23, 2023, from  9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.  Interment SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
