Barbara Bannigan

Barbara F. (nee Sahutsky), age 79, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on April 30, 2015, at home, surrounded by her loving family, after enduring a quiet and most brave struggle with cancer.
She was graduated Valedictorian from Shenandoah Catholic High School in 1953. Her quick mind and love of numbers guided her to focus her college studies in the field of mathematics. She was graduated from Immaculata College and soon after began her teaching career. After graduation, she maintained her relationship with Immaculata and was elected President of the Alumni Association. She continued her education at Villanova University where she received her masters in counseling.
She met her husband, Patrick in 1962. Their whirlwind romance created a wonderful marriage and four greatly loved children.
After raising their children, Barbara returned to teaching mathematics. Her career spanned 30 years while working in the districts of Cherry Hill, Haverford and Lower Merion, from which she retired from in 1993.
Barbara was an avid reader and champion of women educators. She enjoyed both entertaining and vacationing with family and friends. She was a beloved mentor and integral member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Organization for Women Educators for more than 25 years. She served as State President, President of the PA Zeta Chapter, Regional Membership Consultant and chairperson of many regional and international committees. She will always be remembered for her sparkling spirit, compassionate soul, remarkable memory and bright smile. Her genuine kindness will continue to be an inspiration.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Patrick J. Bannigan and the loving mother of Beth Ruggiero (Jim), Ellen Rodriguez (Paul), Chris Bannigan and Barb Bannigan. Sister of Georgann Perrotto (San). Barbara is also survived by her dear grandchildren Nicole, Michael and Gabriel and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00AM to 10:00 AM, The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM St. Bernadette Church, 1035 Turner Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA.
Interment private.
