Barrett Evarts Farnham, of Strafford, PA passed away on August 29, 2016 at his home after a brief battle with cancer. He was 88.
Born on December 3, 1927 in Gladwyne, PA, the son of Marshall Evarts Farnham and Jane Hubbard Farnham, he graduated in 1946 from The Peddie School Hightstown, NJ. At Peddie, Barry was the captain of the golf team in his senior year. After Peddie, he enlisted in the Army and was part of the Toyama Military Government Team in Japan during the early phase of the postwar occupation.
In 1950, Barry graduated from Taylor Business School in Philadelphia, earned his CPA, and went to work as an accountant at Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young). In the years that followed, he was the Controller of the Howmet Corporation, Refractories Division and the Controller for Delsteel Inc. in Wilmington, DE. After retiring from Delsteel in 1993, he provided business consulting and tax services to small businesses in the area.
Barry was an avid skier and continued on the slopes into his late 70s. His great love was his family camp on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, where he summered throughout his life and played an active role in its operation.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judith Jessie Kohl Farnham, his sons Barrett Evarts Farnham, Jr. (Katherine) and James Hubbard Farnham (Jennifer), both of Chester Springs, PA, and 5 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on September 10, 2016 at St. David's Episcopal Church in Wayne, PA, followed by burial alongside his parents at Great Valley Presbyterian Cemetery in Malvern, PA.
