Bernard Allen Francis, Jr.

Bernard Allen Francis, Jr. age 73 of Media, PA, passed away on September 4, 2023.

Born in Burlington, VT, he was the son of the late Bernard Allen, Sr. and Joyce Virginia (née Ogle) Francis.

Bernard served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from January 1969 to January 1977, aboard the destroyer, USS Conyngham DDG-17, assigned to the Fighter Squadron VF-101 at the NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA and on the destroyer, USS Coontz DDG-40 serving as a radar intercept operator. 

Upon leaving the military, Bernard went onto receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in Finance from Temple University, Class of 1979.  He began his four decade career in the Wealth Management Field with Drexel Burhnam  Lambert, followed by Rittenhouse Financial Services, Valley Forge Asset Management, Susquehanna Bank, BB&T/Sterling Advisors, where he served as their as President and CEO. He was with Truist Financial at the time of his retirement.  He also held positions throughout his tenure as COO, CFO and CIO. 

Bernard was an avid golfer and a member of the Gulph Mills Golf Club in King of Prussia, PA, the Chester Valley Golf Club in Malvern, PA, and the Great Bay Country Club in Somers Point, NJ.  He was a boat owner who enjoyed fishing, cruising, and time with family and friends in Avalon, NJ and on the Chesapeake Bay.

Bernard was the beloved husband of Katharine Hancock Francis; the loving father of Christina Francis Reid, Caroline Francis Hall (Michael Hall), Allison Francis Giugliano (Nicholas), Shawn Wister Francis and Bernard Allen Francis, III.  He was the caring grandfather of Darryl Christian Caldwell, Katharine Christina Reid, Lillian Elizabeth Gajkowski, Landen Davis Gajkowski, Griffin Francis Gajkowski, Tanner Michael Hall, M.J. LoRusso, Scarlett Lea Giugliano, Nicholas John Giugliano, Jr., Sophia Lynn Giugliano, and Gracelyn Elizabeth Giugliano.  Bernard is also survived by his mother-in-law, Suzanne W. F. Steigerwalt.

Services and interment will be held privately.  A Celebration of Bernard’s Life will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 12:00 PM, at Teca Newtown Square Restaurant, 191 S. Newtown Street Road, Newtown Square, PA  19073.
