Betty Jane Freyberger of West Chester, PA, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many, passed away on December 4, 2023 at the age of 92 after a brief illness.
She was born in Newark, New Jersey, on February 6, 1931.
Betty grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey and attended Columbia High School. She met and married Raymond in 1953 and moved to Pennsylvania, where she raised her family – her true joy in life.
Their journey together was marked by love, commitment, and shared moments that would last a lifetime until Ray’s passing in 2016.
In her spare time, Betty volunteered at the kids schools and enjoyed playing tennis. A sports enthusiast, Betty also enjoyed watching her beloved Philadelphia teams, and cheering on her grandchildren in their various sports.
Although she spent many years on Lake Embden managing her and Ray’s resort of lakeside cottages in Maine, she much preferred the beach and ocean. She spent countless summers in her younger years with her family, swimming, enjoying the sunsets by the bay, playing gin rummy, boating and cooking up her catches of the day, including her beloved crabs and eels. Betty was quite the bird enthusiast and lover of flowers and plants.
Betty traveled quite a bit and enjoyed visiting friends & family in various parts of the country. In the company of friends, she loved her bridge club gatherings on Valley Forge Mountain, Hershey’s Mill and all the way up until her later years at Ashbridge Manor - all in which she cherished.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Julie), Carol (Jack), Kim (Tim); grandchildren, Kristen (Emily), Michael, Nicole (Sean) Brad, Alec, Nicholas, Courtney, John & Chris; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Brody, and new members, Noah and Miles. Many nieces, nephews and friends will miss her greatly as well as the staff at Barclay Friends, in West Chester.
A Visitation will be held 10:30-11:30 AM Thursday, January 11, 2024 at The Desmond Hotel, 1 Liberty Blvd, Malvern, PA, followed by a Memorial Service to celebrate Betty’s life 11:30 AM.
Betty will be deeply missed but warmly remembered for her love and compassion. May she rest in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Community Volunteers in Medicine in Betty’s name (Providing Heathcare, Hope and Healing), https://www.cvim.org/
