Bridget Joy

Bridget T. “Bridie” (nee McEnroe) Joy, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on December 23, 2019.

Born in Kill Cootehill County Cavan, Ireland in 1935, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bridget (nee McDonald) McEnroe. Bridie was a competitive camogie player as a young girl in Ireland. She came to America in 1954 at the age of 19 and worked at Stouffers Restaurant, Philadelphia, PA. Bridie met and married Bill Joy in 1960 and they resided in Drexel Hill, PA, and raised their 3 children. She loved to garden and was a member of the Cavan Society of Philadelphia for many years. She enjoyed going to Irish dances and bowling. Bridie did childcare for many years and then was a caregiver to older adults. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bridie was caring and gave loving advice.

She was the beloved wife of William Joy; loving mother of Bill Joy (Donna), Kevin Joy (Kim Hoang), and the late Ann Marie Joy-Curay; adoring grandmother of Jessica McMenamin (Rodney), Bill Joy (Kristen), James Joy (Erin), Brian Curay, Kevin Joy, the late Michael Joy, and 12 great-grandchildren; dear sister of Edward McEnroe (Eileen), Eileen Shalvey (the late Phelim), Rose Traynor (the late Phil); predeceased by her siblings James McEnroe, Barney McEnroe (Teresa), Mary Daly (Jack), and Ann Cleary (Maurice); also survived by her sister-in-law, Gladys McEnroe.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30-10:30 AM Monday, December 30, 2019 at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
