Captain Michael J. Linton, 73, of Glen Mills, PA passed away on February 2, 2015.
Born in 1941 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Marie (nee King) and Paul J. Linton.
He was the beloved husband of Susan (nee Weed) Linton; loving father of Jennifer Linton Martinez (Mark) and Joshua Linton; loving grandfather of Corwin Michael Martinez; dear brother of Eileen Conroy (Edward), Marie Delaney (Edward), Paul Linton (Joan) and Anne Paganelli (Christopher).
Michael was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School in the Class of 1959. He served a four year apprenticeship for the Pilot's Association for the Bay & River Delaware.
He was a member of the Pilot's Association for the Bay & River Delaware from 1963 until his retirement in 2009. He served as President of the Pilot's Association for the Bay & River Delaware from 1993 to 1999, and then again from 2001 to 2009.
Captain Linton was appointed by then-Governor Tom Ridge to serve as a Commissioner to the Delaware River Port Authority. He was a member of the Governor of Delaware's Bay Over-site Committee from 1993 to 2009. He was Chairman of the Mariner's Advisory Committee from 1993 to 1999, Chairman of the Joint Executive Committee for the Development of the Port from 1993 to 2005.
Captain Linton was also a member of the Executive Board of Directors of the Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River & Bay from 1993 to 2009 and a member of the Executive Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Maritime Society from 1993 to 2009. He was a member of the Executive Board of Directors of the Vessel Owner's and Captains Association from 1993 to 2009. He was also Chairman of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority Security Committee for the Port of Philadelphia from 2001 to 2009. He was appointed by the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard as Chairman of the Delaware River and Bay Spill Advisory Committee from 2008 to 2009.
Captain Linton was honored to have received the Stephen Girard Port of Philadelphia Maritime Society Man of the Year Award (2001), Spirit of the Port Award for the Seaman's Church Institute (2003), Certificate of Merit from the Department of Homeland Security United States Coast Guard (2005) and the Legion of Honor Gold Medallion for The Chapel of Four Chaplains (2006).
Michael's first love was his family, his second love was Piloting and his third love was golf. Mike shared that passion with so many of his family and friends and while he may not have been the best he certainly had the most fun.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 and to his Memorial Mass 10:30 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA. Int. Private.
