Carlo J. DiMarco, D.O., age 62, suddenly on August 16, 2014, of Fairview, PA and formerly of Media, PA.
Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1952, Carlo was the beloved son of Argia DiMarco (nee Ciccotelli) and the late Domenico A. DiMarco.
He was a 1974 graduate of LaSalle University where he earned his B.A. in Biology, a 1978 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he earned his D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy) and where he did a one year internship until 1979 and a 3 year residency in Opthalmology from 1981-1984. In 1985, he earned his Masters of Science from PCOM and in 1990 his Board certification. In 1995, he completed a fellowship in Opthalmology at the American Osteopathic College of Opthalmology and Otolarygology, Head & Neck Surgery.
From 2006 to present, he was Professor & Regional Dean of Clinical Medicine and also Opthalmology Program Director at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, PA.
Dr. DiMarco was very passionate about dedicated to his field of medicine and was actively involved in many professional and leadership positions, committees and associations.
Some other professional positions he held include Delaware Valley Eye Associates, Inc from 1984-2005; NBA-Philadelphia 76ers Team Opthalmologist from 1995-2006; NLL-Philadelphia WINGS Team Opthalmologist from 2000-2006 and Medical Associates of Erie, Inc. (affiliate of LECOM) from 2006-present, as well as various others.
Some major administrative positions he held include President, Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, Harrisburg from 1992-1993; President, American Osteopathic College of Opthalmology & Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery from 2004-2005; and President American Osteopathic Association, Chicago, Illinois from 2008-2009 among many others.
Dr. DiMarco was a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, Millcreek Community Hospital, Erie, PA from 2006-present.
He enjoyed formal teaching of Residents and Clinical Fellows at LECOM and clinical supervisory and training responsibilities at LECOM.
He was greatly recognized in his profession from colleges, Congressman Arlen Specter, Governor Edward Rendell of PA, Mayor Joseph E. Sinnott of Erie, PA, Representative John Evans, Senator Robert Casey, Jr. and Senator Joseph Sestak among others.
He also has an extensive list of published articles from 1982-2013.
He was the loving husband of Maria R. DiMarco (nee Birlew); loving father of Carlo D. DiMarco and Stephen J. DiMarco (Jessica); dear brother of Eugene DiMarco, D.O. (Marguerite), Claude DiMarco, D.O. (Anne) and Anthony DiMarco, D.O. (Elisa). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 9:00-11:00 AM Friday at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct, West Chester, PA and to his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Int. SS Peter & Paul Cem.
