Carmela Puracchio

Our dear Mother Carmela Puracchio went into the arms of angels surrounded by her loving family on July 29,2024 at the age of 92. She was a wonderful Mother and Nonna who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community in Newtown Square for 48 years leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. 

Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Marcelli. She graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School. She shared 48 years of marriage with Dante Puracchio until his passing in 1999. She volunteered with The Sisters of Mercy, Meals on Wheels and a local elementary school for over 10 years. 

She found great joy in cooking and baking and operated a small catering business for some time with her cousin Rita Horton. Her culinary appreciation was also passed down to her son, daughter-in-law, and especially her grandchildren who are quick to whip up whatever your heart desires.

Her love will live on in her son: Nicholas J Puracchio, daughter in law Luz Angela Bolivar. Carmela is also survived by her grandchildren: Cataleia Puracchio-Bolivar and Nicholas Simón Puracchio-Bolivar, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

To commemorate her remarkable life and the memories we cherish, family and friends are invited to attend a visitation and funeral service on Friday, August 2 at Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square. Visitation will be held from 10-11am followed by a Memorial Service. Interment will be at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield. A luncheon will follow at Springfield Country Club. We welcome all who knew her to join us in celebrating the life of a woman who was loved deeply and will be missed!
