Carmen Adams

February 25, 1940 — August 20, 2017

Carmen "Carmi" Wennerberg Adams, 77, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 20, 2017.



Born in Los Angeles, and raised mainly in Whittier, California, Carmi was the daughter of the late Carl Herbert and Carmel (Leach) Wennerberg.



Carmi was a graduate cum laude of the University of Redlands in California, where she earned her BA, was active in Kappa Delta Epsilon, and was selected for Mortarboard. A lifetime advocate of public education, she worked as an elementary school teacher before her children were born. Later she worked as a home-and-school visitor in the Great Valley School District, an adult educator, and a nanny for Jessica and Joseph Fogliano.With her family, she lived in California, Arizona, Idaho, and New Mexico before moving to Pennsylvania in 1979.



She was an avid reader her entire life, loved swimming and water aerobics, spending time with her grandchildren, and volunteering. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was a devoted member of the Paoli Methodist Church for the last 37 years. She also worked with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and as a volunteer at West Chester East High School. She was a key volunteer with the Santa Fe Bicentennial Celebration, the Fiesta Committee, the Senate campaign of Harrison Schmidt, and the New Mexico Republican Party.



Carmi was the beloved wife of Robert G. Adams, Jr.; loving mother of Robert G. Adams, III (Regan) and Kecia Adams Dilday (Garry); devoted grandmother of Sophia Adams, Joseph Adams, Carly Dilday and Claire Dilday; and dear sister of Marjorie Stanton.



Friends from the southeastern Pennsylvania area are invited to a small memorial service in celebration of her life 10:00 AM Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Paoli United Methodist Church, 81 Devon Road, Paoli, PA 19301. This will be followed by a memorial service for West Coast friends and family in the upcoming months. At her request, she will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd, Norristown, PA 19401.
