Carole A. Madsen (née Hekenaur), age 83, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away on October 27, 2022.
Born in Williamsport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Florence M. (née Botts) Hekenaur. After graduation from South Williamsport Junior/Senior High School, she attended Penn State University to take courses in computers and accounting. She spent her career working with computers in the accounting field. When her first grandchild was born, she left her last job at the Society of CPCU to become her granddaughter’s fulltime babysitter, which she would always say was her favorite role. Carole also enjoyed her time volunteering; her and Andy were on the committee for the Young Life Organization and volunteered at Camp Champion where they served over 200 high school children.
Carole met Andy in Williamsport when he was visiting his hunting cabin in 1979. They soon relocated to East Goshen where they were married in 1980. Their marriage was filled with blissful moments spent sailing, gardening, playing tennis, skiing, cooking together, and entertaining family and friends. Carole and Andy loved to be active and travel. The Chesapeake was very special to them; it was their favorite place to go sailing. Many memories were spent snorkeling and diving in the Caribbean. Saint Michaels, Annapolis, Maine, and Saint Martin were also special places for them. Carole and Andy loved animals, especially their dogs throughout the years: Sam, Jackie, Mindy, Kelsey, and Kody.
Carole was passionate about cooking, ceramics, sewing, crafting, and designing. She was someone who could look at anything and instinctively know how to make it. Ice skating also brought Carole a lot of happiness; she started ice skating as a young girl and continued throughout her life. Carole also loved baking and cake decorating; she’s made many beautiful cakes throughout her life for her loved ones. Carole had a penchant for fashion and exuded style; she was inherently classy and elegant. Carole looked forward to hosting family gatherings and weekly dinners with her grandchildren; her family will always remember sharing delicious meals filled with laughter. Each of these passions were passed down to her children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren, and is something they hold near and dear to their hearts.
Carole had a pure love of life; she was filled with energy, spunk, creativity, enthusiasm, and kindness. Carole’s unconditional love and memory will surround us and give us strength and comfort always.
Carole was the beloved wife of Andy Madsen; the loving mother of Joseph D. Miller (the late Kathryn B.) and Auleen D. Heffron (Timothy J.). She was the devoted grandmother of Kristen A. Miller, A.J. Miller, and Madison R. Heffron, and dear great-grandmother of Jasper J. Stormes and August E. Stormes. She is also survived her niece, K. Michelle Kline and her nephew, Michael Kline, MD. Carole is predeceased by her sisters, Auleen E. Hills and Shirley A. Kline.
