Catherine E. Joyce (Cass), 93, of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 31, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Joyce (nee Weaver).
Cass was a devout Catholic. She grew up in Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in West Philadelphia and was a parishioner of St. Cyril of Alexandria Church in East Lansdowne for 64 years (now St. Philomena / St. Cyril in Lansdowne).
Cass enjoyed visiting Cape May Point, shopping on 69th Street, Christmas trips to downtown Philadelphia to see the John Wanamaker Light Show and the Dickens display with her nieces and nephews and, eventually great nieces and nephews. Cass co-hosted Thanksgiving, New Year’s and Easter dinners with her sister Mary every year for the family. Her favorite part was testing her sister’s delicious food, tasting little bites to make sure “it was just right”.
Cass loved spending time with her family and her home was the setting for many amazing family gatherings filled with love and laughter. Cass was an avid Phillies fan, and wore her Phillies jersey religiously while watching the games with her friends at Ivy Creek.
Cass was predeceased by brothers Peter and Frederick (Sonny) Joyce and sisters Mary (Nan) Devlin and Dolores (Sissie) Fry, as well as niece Mary “Sue” Hicks and nephew John Devlin. She is survived by her loving nephew, Joseph J. Devlin and numerous great nieces and nephews.
