Catherine Blake McConnell died peacefully on Saturday January 7th, at the age of 100, in her home at Waverly Heights in Gladwyne.
She was born on April 16, 1916, the daughter of Josephine and Charles Blake. She met John R. McConnell in the first grade in Haddon Heights, NJ, married him 28 years later and remained married for 55 years until he died in 2004. They had four children Mary Ann, John, Katie and Jane, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her family and friends called her "Kit".
She graduated from Cooper Hospital University Medical School of Nursing and completed graduate studies at Rutgers University. She became a staff nurse for the United States Veterans Administration and then Supervisor of the NJ Public Service Electric and Gas Company's Dispensary. She was also an instructor for the American Red Cross.
Kit was a lively lady who loved to be with other people. She was President of the Parents' Association at Rosemont School of the Holy Child, President of the Main Line Parent's Council, Founder and President of Candlelight Dances (a series of dances for teenagers) and President of the St. Francis Women's Auxiliary. She was also active in the Pennsylvania Association of Lawyer's Wives, the Girl Scouts of America, St. Joseph's Prep Mothers Club and Waverly Heights Marketing Committee.
Relatives and friends are invited to Kit's viewing on Friday, January 13th from 9:30-10:50 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 350 Conshohocken State Road, Gladwyne, PA and to her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
