Cathleen Curran Wilson of Springfield passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, after a long illness. She was the daughter of John and Marguerite Curran (nee, Sullivan.) She leaves behind her devoted husband, Ken; stepson Jamie (Jeanne), her sister Suzanne McGilligan (Tom); brothers Tom Curran (Norma) and Tim Curran (Annette); and her beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Jack.
Cathy was a 1974 graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill. After high school, she attended Delaware County Community College where she received an associate's degree as a registered nurse. While working as a full-time R.N., she attended Eastern College to complete her BSN. She was a devoted and caring nurse, spending most of her career working in the intensive care units at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, where she also helped to unionize the nursing staff. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Springfield.
Cathy was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to travel to Ireland to visit family in Galway and Donegal. She and her husband also enjoyed numerous trips to other countries in Europe, as well as summer vacations in Maine. She was a proud Democrat and volunteered to work on several local and national campaigns. She was an avid reader and a devotee of the Irish poet W.B. Yeats. At her request, Yeats’ poem, “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” was read at her funeral service by her niece, Jacklyn Smith.
Cathy had a big heart for people and for animals and she loved life dearly even in her illness. Her beautiful eyes, warm smile, and infectious laugh will be missed by everyone who knew her.
