Celeste D. Donahue (nee Soltanuk), age 60, of Wilmington, DE formerly of Upper Darby, PA passed away at home on December 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and beloved pets with her husband of 41 years by her side.
Born in Philadelphia in 1956, she was the daughter of Edna Soltanuk (nee Faust) and the late Myron Soltanuk. She grew up in Southwest Philadelphia helping her mother behind the counter at the family owned hoagie shop "The Vittle Vat." There, she met a young kid from the neighborhood who stole her heart, creating a beautiful family filled with love and laughter; that was the true essence of Celeste.
Smart, witty and kind throughout her life, Celeste had the heart of a child and could make an adventure out of even the most mundane events. She liked to walk the "boards" and ride the waves in Wildwood, NJ and enjoyed coaching her daughters' softball teams at the 69th Street AA field, especially when she had the opportunity to umpire and could never call a strike without apologizing to the batter.
Celeste was the wife of Christopher R. Donahue; mother of Stephanie Donahue; Kelly Hearn (nee Donahue) and husband Nate; grandmother of Avery and Andrew Hearn; aunt of Heidi, Jimmy, Conrad, Joey, and Katie; sister of Mark Soltanuk (Toni), Susan Von Borsig (the late Axel), and Vicki Nielsen (Jim); also survived by her dog, Buddy, and her cat, Romeo.
We struggled to capture Celeste's vivacious spirit in just a few paragraphs, therefore, relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at her
visitation 10:30 AM-12:00 Noon, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, 610-449-0300, followed by her Memorial Service at 12:00 Noon. Interment is private.
