Charlene D. Flanagan (nee Somers), age 58, of Swedesboro, NJ, passed away on July 6th, 2023.
Beloved wife to Michael Flanagan; loving mother to Brittani Nichole Belanger (Justin), Michael Collin Flanagan, Darrin Jacob Flanagan; and devoted grandmother “MeMom” to Leighna Jaymes Belanger.
She is also survived by her father Robert Somers, step-mother Caroline, in-laws Thomas and Francis Flanagan, seven sisters, a late brother, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Charlene has been happily married to the love of her life for 34 years. Mike and Char had love and a bond that was like no other. They demonstrated the love, support, friendship and patience that all marriages should admire. They were married shortly after Char graduated Keystone Business School. She was a successful business owner, running her own daycare for many years and later becoming a beloved nanny. She has also had several other business successes including managing the South of SoHo Boutique, which was never a job but more of a passion for her.
Above all else, Charlene’s greatest joy resided in her three children and granddaughter. She treasured every precious moment spent with them. She prioritized her children's well-being above her own, and consistently radiated a glow whenever she spoke of them. She was the epitome of a perfect mother.
Charlene was a person who brought joy to all of those around her. One thing that was special about Char was that she treated and trusted everyone equally. She was always the life and light of the room. Those that had the pleasure of knowing her, know how special she made others feel. When she talked to you, she always made you feel like you were the most important person. Charlene just attracted people, every time she was out she always made new friends. Children gravitated to her as if she were a Disney Princess.
An exceptional dancer, cook, and fashionista, Char effortlessly showcased her talents. She would dance anywhere and everywhere, even if she was the only person dancing. Cooking brought her so much joy. She loved to watch and partake in cooking shows. One of her dishes was even featured on the TV show “The Chew.” Char had a wardrobe like no other, even though she would always tell her husband she did not have a enough clothes. She was always dressed to the nines and had impeccable style. She consistently turned heads, captivating all with her fashion sense and that unforgettable sparkle she had to her.
Her beautiful soul left us way too soon, but what brings us peace is knowing that she lived a full life. She loved to travel and experience the beauty around her. Her safe haven was anywhere she could put her toes in the sand. She got to see a lot of special places all around the world and got to experience them with the people that she loved the most.
Her special sayings will be missed and are words that everyone should continue to live by:
“Treat others the way you would want to be treated”
“Live everyday like it’s your last”
“Dance like no one is watching”
“Kill with kindness”
“I love you to the moon and back”
“Everything happens for a reason”
She will be missed by all who knew her.
