Charles Hough Carmelich of Newtown Square, PA, formerly of Westwood, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2016.
Born in Englewood, NJ on February 5, 1925, Hough attended Dumont (NJ) schools and earned a business degree from Pace University in New York. He was a longtime resident of Westwood, living on Lockerby Lane for 62 years.
Hough was an avid skier and a three-letter varsity athlete at Dumont High. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, as a Radarman on the USS Samuel S. Miles, DE-183. Following his naval service, he played semi-professional football before settling on a career in business. Hough worked for RCA in New York City for nearly 40 years, retiring as Assistant Secretary of the Corporation. He held positions in a number of professional trade organizations, including President of the Stock Transfer and Corporate Transfer Agents Associations. He was a talented artist, an easy laugher and loved summers with his family at the beach in Lavallette, NJ.
Hough was married for 63 years to Madalen Ranieri, who predeceased him in 2012. He lost his much-loved older brother, Dick, in 2013. He is survived by two daughters, Gerry (Richard) Jaffé and Laura (Jim) Gilbert. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sam (Annie) Gilbert, Courtie Jaffé, Charlie Gilbert, and Caroline Jaffé.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 13 at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Monica, 635 First Avenue, Berwyn, PA with a luncheon at Waynesborough Country Club to follow.
