John passed away on July 20, 2022 at home at the age of 75 surrounded by family after a brief battle with lung cancer. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
John was born on May 14, 1947 to Charles (Chap) and Lola (Brillhart) in Delaware County, PA. He graduated from Upper Darby High School and served in the US Navy. His work career began with the Phila Electric Company where he worked for 25+ years as power plant shift manager. John ended his work career after 15 years as a machinist with Synthes (J&J) in 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Peg (Haelle/ Bonner), his daughters, Lisa VanNess (Michael), Monica Fusco, his sister, Rose Marie Bireley (George) and his brother, David Fusco (Fran).
John had special relationships with step-children, Matt DiDonato (Alicia), Chelsea Vilello (Chris), Jon DiDonato, Jeff Haelle (Jen), Jim Haelle and Jackie O’Donnell (John).
John was a loving “Pop” to his grandchildren, Nicholas, Cameron and Samantha VanNess, Hayden, Chase and Carter Haelle, Daniel and Thomas O’Donnell, Emilia and Owen Vilello, Everett and Isaac DiDonato.
John was very proud of his Italian heritage and shares his memories of Sunday dinners at his grandparents with their extended family, Christmas Eve 7 Fish Dinners and wine making with his grandfather.
John’s journey included a dementia diagnosis but he maintained his loving and caring nature and unique sense of humor. He continued to meet new people on his many walks and when asked how he was doing, his response was always “If I was any better, I’d be you”.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:00-11:00 AM Saturday, July 23, 2022 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 15 E. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to “Tunnel to Towers Foundation”.
