Charles Joseph "Charley" Long

Charles Joseph ”Charley” Long, 70, of Ridley Park, PA passed away on August 14, 2023 at Riddle Memorial Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence Joseph Long and Adalgisa Mary (nee Loiacono) Long.

Charley attended St Edmond’s parish school in South Philadelphia before moving to Delco, where he attended Our Lady of Charity parish school. He attended Collingdale High School, graduating in 1971.

Charley loved to watch the Philadelphia sports teams, and especially loved watching the Phillies games with his wife. He was a member of the Aquatic Swim Club in Morton and regretted that he was unable to attend this season. Charley also enjoyed a cold beer at the end of the day. He was a well-known and well-respected Optician for nearly 50 years, most recently working for Starer, Rizzo & Ruffini Ophthalmic Assoc. in Eddystone. What Charley enjoyed the most, though, was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary E. Long, loving children Daniel Long & Angela Long (Michael West), caring brother Joseph Long (Carol), wonderful nieces & nephew Carol Burge, Joseph Long & Stephanie Hashinger, brother-in-law James Cartin (Kathleen, deceased), sister-in-law Nancy Hashinger (Jeff Chidester) and many great nieces & nephews. Charley was dearly loved by his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services & burial will be private at the family’s convenience.
