Charles E. Madden, Jr. of Wayne, PA, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 14, 2015. Chuck adored his loving wife (the late) Joan of 63 years and together they built their own wonderful Irish clan.
At 17, he joined the Merchant Marines and later served in the Navy and Army. You could tell how very proud he was of his Irish heritage, by becoming the founding President of the Main Line Irish American Committee. It was through his love of Irish music that led him to run many Irish festivals at the Willows and annual participation in holiday parades with his Madden Clan. The trips he took to Ireland with Joan and others always stayed close to his heart. Chuck's storytelling was second to none. He had an extreme love for baseball, on and off the field, through playing, coaching & umpiring. He retired after many years of public service for Radnor Township as a plumbing inspector. His heart and home was open to all in need. Chuck enjoyed sharing time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was the beloved husband of the late Joan C. Madden (nee Reilly) and proud patriarch of Kathy (Andy) Tudo, Charles E. Madden, III (Linda Calio), Joan T. (Michael) Gatto, Michael O. (Annemarie) Madden, Anne M. (Kieran) Behm, Mary K. Tague, Maureen (Peter) Gangl, and the late Sean T. (Sheila) Madden, James M. Madden and Kevin Barry Madden. Beloved brother of Anne (Lou) Recchilongo, Barbara Mercer, Carol Sweeney and the late Helen Patrick, Mark Madden, Mary Taylor, Margaret Waite, James Madden. Brother-in-law of Thomas J. Reilly (Uncle Tom). Also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew, Johanne, Chuck, Tim, Michael Patrick, Eric, Kayla, Sean Reilly, Matt, Ryan, Kris, Sean, Daniel, Erin, Shannon, Allison, Kristen, Jennifer, Joseph, Thomas, his 6 great-grandchildren, Kaia, Lily, Rosemary, Kieran, Emily, Adaleigh and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing, Saturday, January 17, 2015 9:00-9:45 AM and to his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM Church of St. Katharine of Siena, 104 S. Aberdeen Avenue, Wayne PA. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Chuck with an act of kindness from your heart or a contribution to Main Line Adult Day Center, 119 Radnor Street, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.
