Charles M. “Mel” Whiteley, age 93, of Glenolden, PA, passed away on October 1, 2021. Born in Upland, PA, he was the son of the late John R. and Katherine J. (nee Kopplemyer) Whiteley.
Mel was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He worked in the Ship Building industry at Sunship and Pennship as a Clerk for the Shipyard. Mel retired from Pennship. He was an avid gardener and a great dancer.
Mel was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (nee Smith) Whiteley; loving father of Elizabeth Morris (James), Ruth Ann Reilley (William), Katherine Whiteley, Deborah Brown (Anthony Cipolloni), and Vicki Frye Smith (Richard); adoring grandfather of 10 grandchildren; caring great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his niece, Carol Bellwoar. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dianne Kloepfer-Sulek (David), son, John R. Whiteley, and siblings, Jack Whiteley, Edward Whiteley, and Katherine Stehl.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Friday, October 8, 2021, 10:00-11:00 AM at The Knoetgen-Donohue Funeral Home, 746 Kedron Ave, Morton, PA 19070, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment Glenwood Memorial Gardens (Broomall, PA).
