Claire Hodnett

June 26, 1935 — April 1, 2016

Claire Marie Hodnett (nee Tracy), age 80, a long-time resident of Springfield, PA died on April 1, 2016 at Springfield Hospital. She was born and raised in Chester, PA and was the daughter of Clara M. Tracy (nee Rodgers) and Edward J. Tracy. She graduated from Chester High School in 1953 and the American Airlines Stewardess College of Chicago, IL in 1957. She was a past member of the Jr. Women's Club of Chester and St. Robert's Catholic Club. She married John F. Hodnett in June, 1959 and resided in Absecon, NJ where she was active in the community and served as the President of the Junior Women's Club of Absecon, NJ. An avid gardener, she received awards and recognition from Flower and Garden Magazine for gardening and arrangements. She was widowed in 1965. She eventually returned to Folsom, PA, and then to Springfield, PA, where she resided for over 43 years. She volunteered at Taylor Hospital and for the American Heart Association for many years. She was employed at the Delaware County Courthouse for over 24 years as a Judicial Administrative Assistant, retiring in 2000. Claire is survived by her children Mark L. Hodnett and Marie C. Hodnett; grandson, John F. Sheldon; nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved pets. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, John F. Hodnett, brothers, Edward J. Tracy, Jr. and William J. Tracy, sisters, Harriet M. (nee Tracy) O'Brien and Lynda A. Tracy and her beloved in-laws Marie and Marcus Hodnett of Crum Lynne, PA. Claire enjoyed gardening, traveling, the beach, breakfast at Nifty Fifty's, bird watching and all wildlife, family barbeques, visiting with family, shopping, crossword puzzles, reading and taking care of her pets. She was a kind and generous soul with an adventurous spirit and bright outlook who was loved deeply and will be missed so very much. Her favorite song was "You'll Never Walk Alone." Service and Burial are private.
