Claire A McGill (née Mannion) of Broomall, PA, was called to her heavenly reward on August 17, 2023.
Claire was the beloved wife of Stephen G McGill, Sr.; the loving mother of Stephen G. McGill, Jr. (Rebecca), William M. McGill (Elise), and Nicholas H. McGill-Gardner (Joanna). She was the devoted grandmother of four precious grandchildren. She was the dear sister of Jean Teichman (Richard), Marie Haverty (Jack), William Mannion, and Gerald Mannion (Dolores). She was the loving daughter of the late William J. and Jane (née Fitzgerald) Mannion. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Claire grew up in Havertown surrounded by her loving parents and four siblings. She graduated from Cabrini College with a degree in Chemistry and began working as a Chemical Analyst at ARCO Chemical Company before starting her beloved family. Most recently, Claire volunteered to teach English as a second language before starting a second career as a Reading Specialist and Wilson program tutor.
She dedicated her life to her family, and thoroughly enjoyed many varied experiences in raising and encouraging her children to try many activities at least once. Claire also enjoyed traveling with her family and designed and managed family “road trips” to all 50 states and international destinations.
Claire was welcoming and imaginative, giving every season and holiday its cheerful celebration, making sure her family grew lifelong bonds together. She also used her professional skills to experiment in the kitchen, and amassed an incredible repository of recipes that she continuously refined – everything from her famous Christmas cookies to Beef Wellington and Irish Soda Bread. Every Thanksgiving had at least two versions of the pumpkin pie as Claire tweaked recipes and asked her family to compare and contrast flavors.
Claire was a wonderful, dynamic woman who looked for the best in everyone, and showed her family by her own example how to live a graceful and grace-filled life. She will be dearly missed by her husband, their sons and families to whom she will continue to be an inspiration and guiding light.
