Claire R. Van Newkirk (nee McDonough), 81, of West Chester, PA and formerly of Delaware County, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 16, 2017.
Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1936, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna Marie (nee Wisely) McDonough. Claire graduated from West Catholic High School for Girls in 1955 and was a long time supervisor of Environmental Services at Mercy-Fitzgerald Hospital. She enjoyed vacationing in Ocean City, MD and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
Claire was the loving mother of Stephen Van Newkirk, Kathleen Comerer (John), Anne Marie Pearson (Kelly), and the late Joanne Van Newkirk; devoted grandmother of Jake, Katie, Danny, and Gabby; dear sister of Theresa Taylor; predeceased by her siblings Mary McLaughlin and Joseph and Edward McDonough; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday, October 19, 2017 and 9:00-10:00 AM Friday at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000 followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
