Clifford Edgcumbe

April 12, 1925 — February 22, 2019

Clifford D. Edgcumbe, age 93, of Lima Estates, Media, formerly of the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby Township, died Feb. 22. He was the beloved husband of Mary Catherine (nee McCormick) Edgcumbe; the devoted father of Clifford D. Edgcumbe (Michele), Stephen J. Edgcumbe (Mary) and Thomas F. Edgcumbe (Susan); the dear brother of the late Susanne Remy (the late Joseph); and the loving Pop-Pop of Madeline, Marielle, Patrick, and Louis.

Mr. Edgcumbe was born in Philadelphia but moved to Drexel Hill at an early age. He was a graduate of the St. Andrew Elementary School in Drexel Hill, and West Catholic High School for boys in Philadelphia. After high school graduation in 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy and served for three years in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

After the war, he went to St. Joseph's College (now University) on the G.I. Bill. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in business. He started out with the Weyerhaeuser Co. and later worked for Penn Valley Plywood Inc., of Oreland, Pa. He retired in 1995.

In retirement, he pursued his hobbies and interests, which included playing golf, reading books on history and religion, following national politics, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was involved in St. Joseph's University Alumni activities and followed the St. Joseph's University men's basketball team.

Mr. Edgcumbe was an active parishioner at St. Dorothy's Church in Drexel Hill for many years and, later, at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Media.

He was a volunteer at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill and a member of American Legion Post 805 in Broomall.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Road, Media, PA

19063, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.

Interment private.
