It is with great sadness that the family of David E. Davis, III, and his loving friend and life partner, Rita Modesti of Coatesville, announce his sudden passing at their home on Thursday, December 27th, 2018.

He was the son of the late David and Madelon (Nilon) Davis, Jr. of Wallingford.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Michelle and brother-in-law Jeremiah O'Leary of West Chester, and his brother, Glennon and sister-in-law Teresa (Murtha) of Ridley Park.

He will be greatly missed by his nephew and godson, Sean F. O'Leary of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and his niece, Meghan S. (O'Leary) Turner and husband Luke and great niece, Bronte E. Turner of Santa Rosa Beach, FL.

David grew up in Delaware County, then lived for many years on a historic Chester County property near Marshallton, PA.

He was a supporter and proponent both in front and behind the scenes to preserve, protect and further the town's wonderful history.

David was a long-time active member of the West Bradford Township Historic Commission, and a founding member of the non-profit organization Friends of Martin's Tavern.

He felt strongly Marshallton history was being lost and suggested markers placed in important locations were needed and then assisted in getting it done.

Most recently, the fruits of his generosity and insight can be seen at the newly opened Marshallton Village Heritage Center at the Marshallton Inn.

David had a personal interest in local history, but he was also a volunteer consultant to numerous non-profit organizations in Chester County. His lifelong interest in open space preservation began in the 1970s as a board member of the Brandywine Conservancy and later as a consultant to the original 1996 "Landscapes," Chester County's comprehensive policy plan. In 1998, David was part of the group that released the county land-use and planning manual titled, "Preserving Our Places." He was chairman of the board of directors of Turks Head Health Services, Inc., a subsidiary of the Chester County Hospital Foundation, and was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania.

David most recently served as Chairman of the Board for The American Gift Fund, a Wilmington-based philanthropy vehicle founded in 1998. He was the chairman and president of Kilmorrey Inc., a marketing imagination consulting firm. He also served the Sultana Education Foundation of Chestertown, MD whose vision is to create "stewards for the Chesapeake Bay". At first, he served as an early supporter, then as a member of the building committee for their new Education Center, and, more recently, as a member of the Board of Directors.

David shared his vast knowledge of world politics, marketing, literature with his countless friends.

He was a rare visionary. He earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State and was an early innovator in the computer and internet industries. His graduate degrees in business later helped him serve as a consultant to numerous start-up organizations. In his free time, David enjoyed traveling, gardening, boating, and summers at his home in Wildwood Crest, NJ. David was a patron of the Arts, and an avid art collector concentrating on emerging Chester County artists.

He was active for many years with the West Chester Bird Club and served on its membership committee to promote the group that was founded in 1910.

Funeral arrangements will be private.

A memorial service and brunch will be held on 02/17/2019 at Teca Newtown Square, 191 South Newtown Street Road, Newtown Square, PA from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in David's name to: Sultana Education Foundation, PO Box 524, Chestertown, MD
