David J. Ellis

David J. Ellis, 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of May 1, 2023 in Media, PA.  Born on December 8th, 1935, David was a lifelong resident of Delaware County, PA. He was the son of Joseph F. Ellis and Catherine C. Ellis (née Burns.) He is survived by his devoted twin brother, Joseph F. Ellis, Jr. of Wayne, PA. David is also survived by his former wife Sheila F. Ellis (née Sarkees) of Wayne and their daughters Kathryn E. Guest (husband Dan Guest) of Philadelphia; Mary A. Ellis of Mclean, VA; and Margaret R. Schollenberger of Norristown; and his son David (wife Stacy Weist) of Wayne. David was a doting grandfather and is survived by his eleven grandchildren: Johnathan and Monica Guest; Patrick, Madeline, Elizabeth and Christopher Foley; Thomas Schollenberger; Michael, Connor, Shayla and Brianna Ellis.  

Throughout his life, David was guided by a passion for engineering and technology that knew no bounds. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Villanova University and a ME in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University. His voracious curiosity for cutting edge technology led his career in many directions, from microwave technology to Naval Weapons Systems. In retirement, he became the volunteer IT specialist at Riddle Village. Regularly inventing everyday solutions to better the lives of his loved ones, his lifelong passion inspired a similar appetite in many of his children and grandchildren. For those relatives and friends who lacked his engineering prowess, he was always available to resolve any computer, phone, or electrical issue that came up. 

David was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis De Sales in Lenni and a man of great faith. He was known amongst his grandchildren for the handmade cards he would send out on religious holidays that featured original watercolor paintings and were inscribed with both scripture and a cheeky joke. Indeed it is for his kind sense of humor that many will remember him most. He was an unexpected ham who couldn’t resist a quick (and oftentimes surprisingly topical) retort. David was always up to date on current events, from politics and news to social media to the hottest new show on Netflix. A competitive pool player, avid photographer, lover of Johnny Cash, and major foodie, David loved being around people. He could always find a way of making a situation better–either with tech advice, a joke, or his infectious laugh. 

Relatives and family are invited to Our Lady of Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Road, Wayne, PA for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Visitation in Chapel and Interment Private.
