David P. Helker, Sr, age 87 of Woodlyn, PA, formerly of Collingdale, PA and South Philadelphia, St. Richard's and St. Monica's parishes, passed away on February 20, 2015 at Taylor Inpatient Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Philadelphia to the late Albert H. and Elizabeth M. (nee Donovan) Helker, David graduated from Temple University and proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps.
David was the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth (nee Bauer), with whom he raised their adored six children. David worked as a Production Control Repair Manager at the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard, retiring in 1987 after 27 years of service. He was active in St. Gabriel's School, fixing computers as their volunteer "Tech Person". He was a Lector and Cantor at Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Darby. His kindness, generosity and sense of humor were appreciated by every life he touched.
David is survived by his loving children David P. Helker, Jr. (Karen), Elizabeth A. McCormick (Mickey), Karl F. Helker (Karen), Teresa M. Hodge (William), Captain Rosemary P. Helker, USAF, Ret. and Andrea L. Hinckley (Roger), his adored grandchildren Kristofer W. Hodge, Matthew D. Helker, Amanda A. Helker, Briana E. Hodge, Brian M. McCormick, Michael J. Helker, Kaitlyn E. Hinckley and the late Andrew R. Hinckley. He is also survived by his beloved siblings Thomas Helker and Margaret Rini.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Tuesday, February 24 from 7:00-9:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073 610-353-6300 and Wednesday, February 25 from 9:00-9:45 AM at B.V.M. Church, 1101 Main Street, Darby, PA, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM.
Interment Private.
