David Joseph MacNamee, Jr., 92, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2022.
Born April 23, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late David J., Sr., and Helen (nee Bowen) MacNamee.
David joined the U.S. Navy when he was 19, serving tours in Korea. After his honorable discharge he settled in Philadelphia with his wife and children and then moved to Upper Darby where he had spent the past 50 years. David worked as a printer, first with Hoover Printing in Philadelphia and then with Thompson Printing in Patterson, NJ, where he retired.
He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. Having followed the Phillies his entire life, he was so proud to see his team make it to the World Series this year. David had an incredible sense of humor. He suffered with S.A.D. and P.T.S.D. and used his humor to brighten his days. He performed uncanny impressions of Jonathan Winters, Jackie Gleason, and even The Fonz. Unbeknownst to many, he was a beautiful signer, sounding a lot like Johnny Matthis. He enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Canada. He would visit his children all of the country which always brought the best out in him with smiles and laughter.
The “Old Man”/”Pop” is survived by his daughter-in-law and caretaker Sandra Cropper; his loving children: David J. MacNamee, III (Heidi), Kathleen Visbal (Wayne), Daniel MacNamee (Kim), and Michele McGrouty (Matthew); his dear niece and nephew Lauretta and Steve; many more nieces and nephews and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings: Stephen and Helen “Kate; his children: Ann Marie Geslo, Stevie MacNamee, Terri MacNamee, Eugene MacNamee, and his little buddy Matthew Cropper.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:30 to 11:30 AM, Friday, December 30, 2022 at Ss. Simon and Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct., West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.
