David Laverne Marshall, 68, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on February 14, 2023.

Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1954, he was the son of the late Floyd and Marguerite Charity (nee Roland) Marshall. David served honorably in the US Air Force. He was a very kind, unassuming, gentle soul. Not one to seek attention, but quietly enjoyed watching his children, and then his grandchildren grow up.

David was the loving father of Joshua David Marshall and Joseph Michael Marshall; adoring grandfather of JJ Marshall, Matthew Marshall, and Skylar Marshall; dear brother of Rachel Fourer, Ruth Wakenight, G. Joy King, and the late Daniel Rowan Marshall; also survived by his girlfriend, Kelly Millett.

David loved and enjoyed his visits with his grandchildren, which he would have liked to have been more often. He remembered their birthdays and Christmases, sending something when he wasn't well enough to visit.

Dave was proud of the time he served in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam war, carrying on a family tradition. His father served during WWI in the US Army Air Core, the precursor to the USAF. Dave  readied jet airplanes for flight by instructors and pilot trainees. He started by working on the flight line and rose to the position of Crew Chief, which is the most senior position on a crew that inspects and services planes before each flight.

Dave enjoyed singing in church and attended regularly when he could. Although he was never in the Choir, he had a good voice. When he was ill, and during Covid quarantines his 3 sisters would visit him virtually via Zoom, usually spending some time singing the hymns he grew up with. His favorite was “The Old Rugged Cross” which his sister Joy often sang solo to him, since she had the best voice and could accompany herself on banjo or guitar.

David will be remembered fondly as a caring brother, a good father, an avid chess player, a puzzle solver, a Rubik's cube master (under 2 minutes from any configuration), a buggy builder, woodworker, adventurer, tree climber and lover of nature.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 2:00-2:30 PM Saturday, March 18, 2023 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, 610-449-0300, followed by his Celebration of Life Service at 2:30 PM. Interment private.
