David "Dave" John Martin, age 65, of Havertown, PA, passed away January 21, 2025, after putting up a heroic battle with cancer for the last nine months. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on November 21, 1959, he was the son of the late Wilmer "Pete" Martin and Mildred J. (nee Merges).
Dave was the beloved Husband of Stacy J. Martin (nee Baker); loving Father of Olivia Eichman (husband Connor), and Wyatt Martin; adoring Pop-pop to Duke Eichman and Bodie Eichman. Loving Brother to James Martin, wife Kathy, and niece Allie. Caring Brother-in-Law to Tracy Baker, wife Tammy, and nephews’ Brett, Jarett, and his wife Ashley.
Dave was raised in Havertown and lived there throughout his life. He was active in church as well as scouting, where he acquired a love of nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed many family vacations filled with laughter and fun down the Jersey shore where he spent a lot of time on his father’s boat. He eventually purchased his own boat and carried on the tradition.
He was a 1977 graduate of Haverford High School where he was active in stage crew and sang in the Chamber Singers, placing 2nd in District and Regional Chorus. In high school, he made many lifelong friendships of which he maintained until his passing. He graduated Drexel University and earned a degree in business and eventually became a CPA. It was at Drexel where he met the love of his life, Stacy, with whom he was married for 38 years.
He pursued a career in finance and banking where after many years of success, he purchased a Knowledge Points franchise, bought the business and transitioned it to a career of educating children. He expanded this to several locations in the surrounding counties where his primary goal was to tutor children of all backgrounds. His work has helped thousands of children achieve their academic goals in a fun and supportive environment.
He followed in his father’s footsteps with a love for all kinds of hunting, fishing and boating. He hunted alligators as far south as Florida, fished for salmon as far north as Alaska. He participated in Civil War reenactment which combined his love of U.S. history and gun collecting. Dave’s leadership in the Boy Scouts continued throughout his adult life. He was active in his church, serving on the leadership committee and assisting in many church strategy and facility projects.
It was his work with Making a Change Group that permitted him to apply a lifetime of business knowledge and leadership skills to benefit others. Dave enjoyed every moment and was proud to be a small part of the growth and success of the organization
Aside from his many activities and pursuits, his love for his immediate and extended family was first and foremost. He was devoted to supporting his children in all their school and sporting activities. He never missed an opportunity to travel to a game or tournament. Vacations to Hawaii with family and friends were highlights. He was consistently reaching out to his extended family members just to see how they were getting on and often opened his home for family gatherings. He loved his town, his home and his neighbors and was known to be a ready resource to anyone in need.
