David L. McGaughy

David L. McGaughy, 64, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 10, 2022, of natural causes. Born in Chicago, David was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, which he joined after graduating from high school at 17. He served six years aboard the USS Stein, based in San Diego, and often regaled family and friends with stories of Westpac journeys and the shenanigans of young men exploring the world. He would stay in San Diego for 15 years and welcome a beautiful daughter before returning to Chicago and a new chapter in life. There, he found his passion while training to be a computer technician, eventually becoming a systems engineer and certified tech Geek. Job opportunities would take David and his wife from Chicago to Tampa and eventually Philadelphia, where he opened doors to new friends and adventures.

David, who resided in Drexel Hill, held a strong faith and belief in eternal life. Yet, he left this world far too soon and will be greatly missed by all who loved him for his gentle ways and endless compassion for anyone struggling.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Annie McGaughy Price, brothers Larry and Burnest McGaughy, and stepfather Frank Maymon. He is survived by his wife, Christine Perovich; daughter, Rhiannon McGaughy Okunbo; granddaughters Taylor and Jordyn; sister Patricia Fleming; and brother Albert McGaughy.

At David’s request, no services are planned, but family asks for his remembrance. Memorials preferred to organizations that support underserved children and families.
