David M. Spillane of Exton, PA
David M. Spillane, 86, of Exton, died peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2014.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rita R. Spillane, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage; devoted father of Michael (Jeannie), Bill (Lisa), John (Patricia), Timothy (Donna), Gary (Anne), Mary Mundth (Charles) and Laura Sawhill (David); he will be missed by twenty-four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
David grew up in Glen Ridge, NJ and received his Bachelor's Degree from St. Peter's University after serving honorably in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
A skilled businessman and entrepreneur, he founded an international industrial pipe importing company (Basalt Linings Company) and established the David M. Spillane Company which sold electrical power generating equipment to major public utilities. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling abroad and throughout the United States representing his product lines to his many customers.
David was always active in sports throughout his life and was a standout in basketball, football and track as a young man. He was also active as a Scout leader and baseball and basketball coach. An avid golfer in his adult years, he was a member of Overbrook Country Club, Fords Colony and Hershey's Mill Golf Clubs.
David and his wife worked together in their retirement with many charitable endeavors, including Habitat for Humanity, Project HOME in Philadelphia and weekly visits to the Pembrooke Nursing Home in West Chester.
He was a long time member of SS Peter & Paul Parish in West Chester. He was a kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:00 AM Monday, February 24, 2014 and to his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 1325 Boot Rd, West Chester, PA 19380.
