Diane Miles

April 26, 1934 — December 11, 2014

Diane Yvonne Miles (nee Hannum), was born in Philadelphia to the late Charlotte Elizabeth (nee Brown) and William Bernard Hannum. She passed away on December 11, 2014 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Lima, PA at the age of 80.

Diane had her first communion at age 7 at St Thomas AME Church. Diane was educated through the Philadelphia Public Schools, attending Brooks Elementary, Shoemaker Jr. High and West Philadelphia High Schools with Verna Mickey. She also attended Bok Vocational Technical School, obtaining her Practical Nursing License and worked at several hospitals as an LPN. Diane later went on to work at City Hall, where she met Christine Thompson, both retiring from the Kmart Corporation.

After graduating from high school, Diane had a brief marriage to her high school sweetheart, Herman Love. But, in 1960, Diane married Alvin Miles and blessed the union with 4 children.

Diane was a fortress of strength, which she instilled in each of her kids. She never hesitated when she saw a neighbor in need, often looking after young and old. She loved all animals. Diane loved to crochet, knit and sew and loved to teach anyone willing to sit still long enough, often using these skills to clothe her children. She wrapped her family in afghans of love, which are still used to this day.

Later Diane and her friends became known as "The Golden Girls". They spent time together shopping, going to Atlantic City often and even on a cruise. Diane loved living life to its fullest, partied with the best of them, leaving little room for regret.

Diane is survived by her loving children: Diane Miles (Susan), Kurt Miles, Valerie Mitchell (Roger) and Carla Holloway (Bill); her 5 adored grandchildren: Diane (Emmanuel), Steven, Marcus, Briana & Donovan; and her 2 great-granddaughters: Pilar & Xiomara. She is also survived by her brother Stephen Hannum (Joyce) and her lifelong friend Verna Mickey. She also leaves lasting memories with a host of nephews, nieces, family, friends & neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Diane was pre-deceased by her husband, Alvin Clinton Frederick Miles; her brother, William Hannum and her best friend Christine Thompson.

Interment Private.
